| ABSTRACT |

We are designing concrete slabs-on-ground for a new steel foundry. Inside the building, slab panels will be 25 x 25 ft (7.6 x 7.6 m) in plan. Panels will be placed separately and each will have a perimeter grade beam turn-down. The panels will be doweled between each other and into a 10 ft (3 m) wide band at the perimeter of the building. At the building entrances and at some inside locations, the panels will be subject to forklift and semitruck loads. Where can I find a procedure for designing dowels (size, length, and spacing) for shear transfer between slab sections? I can’t find anything in ACI 318 that relates to the development length of dowel rods subject to shear.
