| ABSTRACT |
|
A comparison of two separate contracts, undertaken three years apart, for the supply and installation of acid resistant drainage systems for a zinc refinery in South Africa, is presented. The first contract was completed in 1992 and the experience gained from the construction and subsequent performance of the drainage system over a three-year period was evaluated for the second contract. In 1995, a precast floor solution was utilized to reduce span and eliminate cracks in the installation. Because of the increased frequency of construction joints, particular attention was necessary in both joint design and quality assurance for the installation.
